FOSD paid for continued training of staff in the use of the wood shop Computer Numerical Controlled router, previously purchased by FOSD. Teaching students how to use this amazing piece of equipment will prepare graduates for well-paying jobs in manufacturing and construction.
Admissions Aid
FOSD will provide up to $150 per student who has graduated from OSD in the past 2 years, or is currently a junior or senior at OSD, for any fee associated with testing or admissions to an institution of higher education (e.g., test fees, vocational school, college, university).
Panther Special Supplies
A $2,500 fund was established to reimburse OSD employees up to $100 for special supplies–items which are not a standard part of a class, subject or activity, but are needed to better serve students.
Aquariums
FOSD purchased 6 new glass aquariums for the Science program to replace old, leaking, acrylic models. Each of the 6 high school Science classes is responsible for “their” aquarium and “their” fish. Besides learning how to select and care for the fish and maintain the aquarium, students acquire scientific knowledge of chemicals, water testing procedures, observation, and documentation skills.
Bilingual American Sign Language (ASL) Online Stories
FOSD purchased licenses to install ASL stories on 40 OSD iPads. As an enhancement to bilingual literacy efforts, these stories can be viewed in ASL and written English. The text is interactive and includes vocabulary words on which students can click to see both the signed word and the English definition.
